The past few days have been spent laying on the couch in front of the television catching up on shows I’ve neglected to watch. Today I suddenly decided I’d rake up some of the leaves in the backyard, knowing that by tomorrow all of the picked up leaves will be replaced by new ones. It was nice to get outside and do some manual labor though, so it wasn’t a complete waste of effort and energy.

I’ve passed this stump with a face for years while on walks or going to the pool in the neighborhood behind our house. Over the years it lost one of its eyes, but it’s still a nice little tradition to walk past and look at it. My parents, the dogs, and I have been going on a lot more walks lately trying to get more exercise for everyone, so I figured it was about time to take a photograph of the somewhat creepy face on a random stump.

Although today was pretty uneventful, I still had an amazingly fun time hanging out with David. Class today consisted of going on a tour of Flint’s urban gardens. Ironically enough, as soon as I got home from looking at numerous gardens growing organic, fresh vegetables, David and I had fast-food for dinner.

Lauren and I spent our last day being tourists and going to all of the souvenir shops in the town of Chimney Rock. Between two stores there was a set of stairs leading down to the river where we spotted this bridge. It looks like railings were just added on to the natural rock bridge. I was really happy I had decided to bring my camera so I was able to take the photo, but after another hour of carrying my heavy bag around in the hot sun, I wished I would have left it at the house.

Lauren’s dad took me and her to the driving range today. It was the first time I’ve ever hit a golf ball, but it turned out better than expected. We had just got through our first basket of balls when we heard thunder and saw some very threatening clouds headed our way. It stormed the rest of the day so photo opportunities were literally dampened. The walkway to the house was the farthest I ventured.

We rented a pontoon boat today with friends of Lauren’s family and went all around Lake Lure. We saw the steps that Baby danced down in Dirty Dancing and swam around in the lake. To get to and from the dock you have to pass through this really pretty patio area. The trees hang over the table and chairs, shading them perfectly.

Lauren and I spent today on the beach of Lure Lake (where some of the water scenes from Dirty Dancing were filmed!) trying to soak up as much sun as we could even though it was overcast most of the day. The scenery here is so amazing that I can’t help but make it the subject of all of the photographs!

The timeshare where we are staying is up in a mountain with winding roads that have sharp turns. It’s really easy to get lost while driving because there are so many little roads that branch off of others. The scenery is amazing, and I have yet to get any bug-bites!

The North Carolina trip finally arrived. I spent the night at Lauren’s last night because we had to leave bright and early on the 12 hour car ride. The timeshare where we are staying at is up in these mountains, which is causing some really big internet and cell phone service issues. Lauren and I are going to try and find a way to get some service tomorrow, but it’s really not looking good.

I’m so excited to go to North Carolina with my best friend Lauren and her family that I started packing a week early. That’s better than in the past where I’ve started packing nearly a month before a trip, but it’s still a little eccentric. I’ve kept a clipping from a magazine about the best way to pack and still use it in order to get the most usage out of the little space I have. I’m so excited for this trip that will provide an amazing setting to photograph!

I had a team meeting at work yesterday that was quite unlike any of the previous ones I’ve been to. At this meeting, instead of going over skills or talking about pool related things, we painted a mural on the windows. There was roughly 25 yards of window space (any guess what I’m using as a measuring guide?) that we covered with a sea scape. Surprisingly enough, the lifeguard team actually can paint. This was a nice distraction from the fact that David had just left a few hours earlier. I forgot to bring my camera to the actual day of painting, but decided it was still worth photographing the next day.

David and I spent our last day together (before he goes back to Canada) hanging out together and trying to make the most out of the little time we had left. We went to our favorite and most sentimental playground to be there together one last time. The sun was setting as we were there and it cast such a beautiful light over everything.

These beetles show up every year and leave a path of destruction. Their main target is our climbing vines on our pergola which they leave thoroughly devoured by the end of the summer. My dad does all he can every year to ward them off, but they’re incredibly persistent. Although I’m not a huge fan of bugs (definitely the ones that can fly which can suddenly spring up into your face and freak you out), I thought it was about time that I tried to capture a trickier, unpredictable subject.

A huge storm passed through today taking out trees and causing a lot of power outages. Luckily the power only went off at my house for less than five minutes. David and I had plans to go to a friend’s house, but with the weather being so crazy we had to hold off until things calmed down. When we went into the garage to leave, my dad’s recently parked car was still covered in rain water which proved to be an interesting subject.

As I was driving home from class wondering why I hadn’t taken any photos of the campus, I looked up and saw the most amazing sight in the sky. The sun had tucked behind these pillars of clouds to create this ridiculous effect. It looked even cooler with the purple effect of my sunglasses, but I wasn’t going to be tricked by them again. I quickly grabbed my camera when I was stopped at a light out of fear that the clouds would move by the time I got home and the picture would be lost.
